PFD400- Discovery Designer for Industry

Design Brief:

Design a domestic product that measures weight or volume. You are encouraged to explore beyond any personal experiences you may have by identifying a “user group” and creating a product concept appropriate to their needs and aspirations.

A product to help encourage younger children to help with cooking and baking, it’s a range of moulds each with different key baking measurements so kids can learn through play. As well as promoting useful life skills like cooking and baking, it also helps with enrichment in younger ages through sensory play.

  • Sketch models were made from card and foamboard, working prototypes were 3D printed using resin. If this design was developed further, vacuum forming would be the most suitable manufacturing method as it would be more efficient and use less material

  • Flower: 100×100×30mm

    Wand: 100×150×30mm

    Unicorn: 110×130×30mm

    Castle: 100×140×30mm

    Leaf: 80×140×30mm

  • Used as a measuring tool whilst cooking and baking, these fun and colourful moulds encourage kids to learn through play as they are more engaged in core skills like cooking
