PFD400- Discovery Designer Maker
Design Brief:
In this project you will design and make a unit / object and then present food on/in. Using cardboard as your key material you will think carefully about structure, positioning, configuration, jointing and strength.
Using cardboard as the main material as well as thread and split pins as the fixtures, the ‘Venus food trap’ displays a gummy spider in it’s mouth. The food and form of the holder was chosen to repulse viewers and deter them from eating the food. The main plant pot can separate from the rest of the model so more food can be stored inside to save space. Different techniques for joining and folding the cardboard was tested and the most suitable ones were chosen to provide strength for the structure. Acrylic paint was chosen to decorate the surface for pure aesthetics to make the model more realistic.

The venus food trap was made entirely out of 1200×1200mm corrugated cardboard. Embroidery thread was used to join the pieces together as well as split pins on the pot. Acrylic paint was used on the surface to provide some realism to the design. Scrap cardboard was cut up and mixed with acrylic to create the textured soil.

The venus food trap is used to display food and uses a gummy spider to finish the look. The main function is to deter people from eating the food on display by making unappealing. With extra space within the pot to store extra food, this object is perfect to hold food
